Conversation about Exploring the Nature of Shadow
May 14 @ 7:30 pm - 8:30 pm AEST
Thursday 14th @ 7.30pm (60 mins) –
After three weeks of stirring conversations about dreams, death, grief and loss, we are fortunate to have Chris Caldwell with us again, this time talking about the often misunderstood subject of shadow.
The shadow may be defined as all of our psychic material that is suppressed, restricted or undeveloped.
This talk is necessary for all of us who are in deep pursuit of the Self. In this session we will come to understand what shadow is, its origins, how to recognise its appearance in one’s personal life and relationships, and also realising the harm of the non-recognition of shadow.
Shadow is one of the first necessities we must come to terms with on the path of personal growth in order to be effective in the world. If you have a muted sense of effectiveness or have an ongoing pattern that doesn’t serve you, then learning about shadow helps to ease this.
We will also look at the importance of understanding shadow for our own personal growth, and especially for our relationships. The nature and function of projection will also be explained, as a vehicle of shadow.
Chris Caldwell has been a practising psychologist for nearly 30 years. His experience includes a thriving private practice in the Dandenongs and teaching psychological and counselling skills throughout Victoria including tertiary institutions.
He has been influenced by formal training in the teachings of Freud and Jung, and has spent much time in India, engaging with spiritual practices and meditative processes. This background, along with a decade long interest in plant medicines, informs his personal interest in the unconscious and the inner world of images.
Along with continuing to teach at the Ikon Institute, Chris still sees a few private clients. He has an abiding interest in dreams and images, and runs several dream groups that meet regularly.
